“Red’s Best Friend” is a unique one-of-a-kind original mixed media drawing on linen, hand-signed by the internationally recognized artist, actor, humanitarian and philanthropist, Red Skelton. This artwork was created by the artist using prismatic oil pencils and vertically signed by Red Skelton on the left side of the mixed media drawing. The family always believed that the wonderful clown featured in this work of art was a friend of Mr. Skelton’s, likely someone with whom he worked in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Red enjoyed painting individuals with interesting faces, and he painted them frequently as clowns, for which he became internationally famous. The individual clown featured in this wonderful drawing has a bowtie, consisting of flowers, suggesting this portrait was an individual in the circus. Mrs. Skelton believes the individual in this portrait could also be a portrait of a young Red Skelton, without his classic makeup. This charming original and colorful drawing measures approximately 15.5” x 16.5” and is beautifully framed using museum quality materials.
